Five security personnel were killed and around 30 sustained injuries in the encounter in Bijapur on Saturday, Chhattisgarh Police said.

The incident led to national outrage and Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised action in the matter.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni said, "The Union Home Minister will leave for Tamil Nadu today and reach Chennai by 10:45 pm tonight. He will participate in various important programmes tomorrow."
