A Veeragallu sculpture dating back to the Vemulawada Chalukya period was discovered at Mannepally village in Karimnagar district. Unearthed near a milk centre by a local resident, the black stone carving depicts a battle scene with soldiers on horseback and elephant.
The discoveries were made by workers engaged by a private company that was carrying out mining on Somnathanuni Gutta on the outskirts of Velchal, which is surrounded by dozens of hillocks.
