Karimnagar: A Veeragallu sculpture dating back to the Vemulawada Chalukya period was found at Mannepally village in Thimmapur mandal on Saturday.
The sculpture was discovered on the premises of a milk centre near Karnala Ghadi when a local resident, Pothuganti Sampath, was clearing bushes.
Carved on a black stone measuring about one and a half feet in height, the sculpture depicts a war scene. It shows a mounted soldier holding a sword in his right hand and a kallem in his left, striking down an opponent, while another soldier is shown riding an elephant.
Explaining its significance, historian Reddy Ratnakar Reddy said the Veeragallu commemorates a soldier who died in battle. Based on the sculptural style, he said it belonged to the Chalukyas of the Vemulawada period.
He advised villagers to install the sculpture in temple premises, noting that it had been receiving poojas from the public for a long time.
