WhatsApp is preparing to launch a username-based messaging feature that will let users connect without sharing their phone numbers. The feature aims to improve privacy, allow unique username registration, and is expected to roll out globally later this year

The new feature, if rolled out, will enable users to select their favourite contacts which might appear with a specific chat filter.
