Talasani targets Congress over undelivered poll promises

Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its election promises and demanded clarity on their implementation. He questioned the government over its promise to provide one tola of gold in addition to the financial assistance under the schemes.

Speaking after distributing Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak assistance cheques to 51 beneficiaries at the Secunderabad tahsildar office on Monday, Srinivas Yadav asked whether even a single beneficiary had received the promised one tola of gold under the scheme nearly three years after the Congress came to power.

He also questioned the government’s failure to increase pensions for persons with disabilities from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000, as promised.

He said elderly persons and persons with disabilities were visiting government offices seeking new pensions, but fresh sanctions were not being issued. He pointed out that the Congress had made the promises in its manifesto, even though people had made no such demands.

The former minister criticised the government’s proposal for beneficiaries to contribute Rs 6 lakh towards double-bedroom houses. He questioned how poor families could arrange the amount and why the beneficiary contribution was not mentioned in the election manifesto.

He also questioned the conduct of lotteries to select beneficiaries for houses that were yet to be constructed and demanded that the government clarify when the houses would be completed and handed over.
