Kothagudem: Four gates of Taliperu reservoir at Cherla in Kothagudem district were lifted to discharge 5087 cusecs of excess water downstream on Wednesday.
Though the district remained dry on Wednesday, the project received inflows due to rains in its upper catchment and there has been an inflow of 5542 cusecs into the reservoir, officials said.
On the other hand, the water level in river Godavari at Bhadrachalam has been increasing steadily due to rains in its upper catchment and release of water from upstream projects. The water level reached 32 feet, informed Central Water Commission officials.
The water level may increase further to reach the first warning level (43 feet) and if that happens, standing crops in the villages on the banks of the river may be submerged.
