Tasar Resham Krishi mela organised in Mancherial

Mancherial: A day-long Tasar Resham Krishi Mela was organized for the benefit of Tasar Sericulture farmers of this region at a model cocoon market complex, in Chennur on Tuesday.
The event was sponsored by the Central Silk Board-Central Tasar Research & Training Institute (CSB-CTRTI)-Ranchi in collaboration with the Sericulture department of Telangana. Collector Kumar Deepak was the chief guest of the programme.
Kumar expressed happiness for organizing the for the benefit of the tasar sericulture practicing farmers. He opined that apart from tasar cocoon production, reeling of silk yarn and making of fabric could be developed in this region which would create more employment to the local people and bring value addition to the product.
The Collector assured all possible help from the government in this direction. He emphasized the use of barren government lands for cultivation of tasar plants helping local people to actively take up tasar culture . He advised the sericulture and forest department officials to make a joint meeting to resolve the issues between them.
Dr N Balaji Chowdary, CSB- CTRTI Director, who graced the occasion, said that the best quality tasar silkworm seed was being produced in Chennur area, which had a national demand in all tasar sericulture practicing states of the country and stressed to begin the post cocoon activities through local self-help groups in association with Astitva Mahila Samithi, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.
He was all praise for the outstanding services rendered by Basic Seed Multiplication and Training Centre (BSMTC), Chennur led by MVK Bhagavanulu, Scientist-D for the past decade in tasar raw silk production in the country.
