Karimnagar: Civil Supplies Enforcement Task Force officials seized 320 quintals of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice during raids on Veeranjaneya Rice Mill at Bornapalli on the outskirts of Huzurabad on Sunday.
Acting on reliable information, enforcement officials from Hyderabad kept a watch on the movement at the mill and intercepted two autorickshaws transporting six quintals of PDS rice illegally.
Following this, checks were conducted inside the premises where a large stock of PDS rice bags was found stored without authorisation, taking the total seizure to 320 quintals.
Enforcement Task Force OSD Prabhakar said autorickshaw owners were purchasing PDS rice from people in various villages of Chigurumamidi mandal for Rs 12 per kg, and transporting it to the mill at the behest of an illegal trader, Edla Ramesh.
He said a complaint had been lodged with the local police and criminal cases would be registered against the rice mill owner and Ramesh.
