Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has challenged the claims made by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) that the BCCI had approved the conduct of the TG20 League, which is scheduled to be held later this month.
The TCA, which has already issued notices to the court-appointed administrator and former High Court judge Justice Naveen Rao, as well as HCA Secretary A Jeevan Reddy, seeking restraint on the conduct of the proposed league, said an official communication from the BCCI raises serious questions about the legality and authority under which the tournament is being organised.
“If the HCA possesses specific approval from the BCCI for conducting the TG20 League, it should place such approval in the public domain. Transparency is the best way to remove all doubts and reassure players, franchises, investors and stakeholders,” TCA general secretary Guruva Reddy said.
The TCA further contended that any major initiative undertaken by a state association must be consistent with the association’s constitution, applicable BCCI regulations and decisions of its General Body.
“Several stakeholders have raised concerns regarding the process followed for launching the TG20 League. These concerns deserve answers. Compliance with constitutional provisions and regulatory guidelines is not optional but mandatory for every cricket body functioning under the BCCI framework,” Guruva Reddy stated.
The TCA had specifically sought documentary proof of BCCI approval for the TG20 League and the change in nomenclature from the previously proposed Telangana Premier League (TPL) T20.
