Hyderabad: A major technical glitch in multiple IndiGo aircrafts triggered a chaos at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), from Tuesday night, leading to the cancellation of at least 33 flights, including several departing from Hyderabad and some arriving from various States.

The unexpected disruption created severe confusion and frustration at the airport. Nearly 1,000 passengers had been waiting at the terminal with no clarity on flight rescheduling. They were only provided with accomodation by the airlines late night.

Passengers travelling to Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, as well as those taking connecting international flights, were the worst affected. Several people reportedly missed their visa interviews and international connections.

A Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight, scheduled shortly after midnight, remained stranded on the runway for nearly two hours due to the technical issue. As tensions rose, the flight was brought back, and passengers were de-boarded. Many of them had to wait at the airport for further updates.

Meanwhile, IndiGo on Wednesday said that technology issues, airport congestion and operational requirements have caused several unavoidable delays and cancellations at RGIA, over the past two days.

The airline in a statement issued in the afternoon said its teams were working to stabilise operations and minimise inconvenience to passengers after a series of disruptions.

“We have had several unavoidable flight delays and some cancellations in the past few days due to various reasons including technology issues, airport congestion, and operational requirements,” IndiGo stated.
