Technology helping crack traditional crimes: DGP Mahendar Reddy

Hyderabad: Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy on Saturday said law enforcement agencies were cracking traditional crimes by extensively using technology.
Speaking after inaugurating the third annual conference of Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Hyderabad Chapter, under the theme ‘Unfolding Fraud Deterrence’, he complimented the tremendous work being done by ACFE in areas of fraud deterrence and knowledge updation that were being imparted to members by their quality training, publications, seminars, webinars and other educational material.
He said traditional crimes were being investigated and successfully cracked due to rapid strides in technology and its extensive use by law enforcement agencies. He said the government had also recognised the need for enhanced skillset and set up an exclusive National Forensic University at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
When technology-based frauds are on the rise at alarming levels, the Police Department was also gearing up to enhance skills of the personnel, he said.
In his keynote address, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Stephen Raveendra said he was regularly interacting with young professionals and group of anti-fraud professionals to deploy their skillset and knowledge for fraud prevention.
Prabhakar Aloka, former DG, Intelligence Bureau, spoke on role of ethics in fraud deterrence. He stressed on the importance of fragile and thin line between ethical and unethical thinking and that one should be conscious about whether they are on line or have they crossed it.
International cyber security expert Amit Dubey spoke on cyber frauds – transformative trends and mitigation methods. He demonstrated various online tools to identify personal information that was compromised.
