Hyderabad: Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Teenmaar Mallanna on Saturday demanded that the Congress government rename KBR Park as Professor Jayashankar Park.
He also called for the removal of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late Kasu Brahmananda Reddy’s statue at the park entrance, proposing that a statue of Prof Jayashankar be installed in its place.
“If the Congress government fails to consider our demand, the BC government, which will come to power, will rename the park and install Prof Jayashankar’s statue,” Teenmaar Mallanna said in a video released on social media.
The MLC was suspended from the Congress in March this year for anti-party activities. He had earlier raised strong objections to the State government’s caste census, burning a copy of it and calling it a bogus survey. He also made derogatory remarks against the Reddy community.
As part of his demand, the MLC, along with a few others, staged a protest at KBR Park on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Teenmaar Mallanna said that all parks and hospitals named after individuals who had opposed the formation of Telangana should be renamed.
“Telangana belongs to BCs, SCs and STs. As part of asserting the identity of our communities, we have launched these programmes. Not just KBR Park, the names of many others will be changed,” he said in the video.
