Hyderabad: MLC Chintapandu Naveen, alias Teenmaar Mallanna, was put under house arrest by the police early on Saturday.
Rachakonda Police personnel were deployed in large numbers around his residence at Chennareddy Enclave in Peerzadiguda, effectively restricting him from leaving the premises.
Officials are believed to have placed him under house arrest in view of the final rites of BC activist Sai Eshwar Chary, who died by suicide by self-immolation demanding the implementation of 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).
The move has sparked criticism from several BC community leaders, who denounced the house arrest as unjust and demanded clarity from the authorities.
