Khammam: A 100-bed hospital sanctioned and built by the previous BRS government in Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s constituency in Madhira of Khammam district in 2023 is yet to be made functional. Thanks to the alleged negligence of the Congress government and Deputy Chief Minister, the facility has not been brought into use even after nearly 15 months of Congress rule.

The hospital was scheduled to be inaugurated in October 2023 but was stalled as the schedule for the Assembly elections was issued on October 9 and the model code of conduct came into force.

The 100-bed facility was built in Madhira town by the BRS government by upgrading Government Area Hospital at a cost of Rs 34 crore, fulfilling the long-standing desire of the people in the constituency. The government sanctioned 103 posts, which include six civil surgeon posts, nine deputy civil surgeons as well as 35 civil assistant surgeon posts.

Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, former ZP chairman Lingala Kamal Raju questioned whether the Deputy Chief Minister could not find time to open the hospital in his own constituency even after 15 months since the government was formed in the State.

The previous BRS regime built the hospital to provide quality health and medical services to the poor in Madhira constituency. If the hospital was made functional immediately, it would be useful for the people of Yerrupalem and Bonakal mandals in the constituency, he said.

It is surprising to see that the Congress government, instead of bringing the fully developed 100-bed hospital into use, was neglecting it and more surprisingly, issuing statements on sanctioning funds for building 50-bed hospitals at Mudigonda and Yerrupalem, Kamal Raju said.

Though it is not wrong to sanction new hospitals, Bhatti Vikramarka should take immediate steps to inaugurate the 100-bed facility, Kamal Raju said, adding that the Deputy Chief Minister should focus on works that are useful for the people.
