Hyderabad: In a record of it sort, a whopping 241 Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) students from economically weaker sections have scripted success in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2021 results that were declared on Monday.
Of the total, 48 students secured more than 500 marks out of 720 in the entrance test. All these 241 rankers are likely to get MBBS seats this year and many more students will secure BDS seats. Last year, 135 social welfare students joined MBBS course in various medical colleges.
The students belong to families whose parents work as daily wage earners, roadside vendors, agricultural labour, security guards and autorickshaw drivers.
“I secured 559 marks in NEET and all India 949 in SC category. My teachers encouraged me a lot and I am very much indebted to them. Hard work, proper planning and a lot of mock tests helped me secure 949 rank. I want to pursue Nephrology as a specialization,” said Spandana from Cherlapalem village, Mahabubabad district.
Samuel who secured 602 marks and all India 7,252 rank in BC category said his parents sell vegetables for a living. “Due to acute financial constraints, I wouldn’t have dreamt of cracking the NEET had the State government not provided free long-term coaching. I want to be remembered as a people’s compassionate doctor,” said Samuel who hails from Jawahar Nagar, Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
