Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University has changed the eligibility criteria for admissions into agriculture, agri-engineering and organic diploma courses offered by the university.
From now on, seats in the said courses would be filled with 60 per cent students who studied in the rural areas (must have studied in rural areas for four years) and 40 per cent seats with rural and urban students.
Earlier, admissions were given only to students who had studied in rural areas. The changes to eligibility criteria were decided in the university’s academic council meeting held recently, PJTSAU Registrar S Sudheer Kumar said on Wednesday.
The admissions would be done based on the merit secured in Telangana State Polytechnic Common Entrance Test (TS POLYCET) 2021 and seats under the rural quota would be filled only with students who have studied four-years in the rural areas, the Registrar said. The university also made changes to the qualifications required for the admissions.
Earlier, students who passed Class X were only eligible for the courses. Henceforth, candidates who studied intermediate and secured merit in the POLYCET would also be eligible for the admissions, Sudheer said.
There were no changes made to the age limit for admissions, he said, adding that students who completed 15 years and are under 22 years of age were eligible for the courses.
Based on the ranks secured in the POLYCET 2021, the admissions in agriculture, agri-engineering and organic polytechnic diploma courses would be done in public and private polytechnic colleges under the university, he added.
