Telangana: Another Sircilla weaver burdened with debts ends life
Raju incurred Rs 6 lakh debts after performing the marriage of two daughters and a son. Left without work, he went into depression and ended life, neighbours said .
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA: Unable to overcome a deepening financial crisis, a powerloom weaver, Parikipelli Raju (55) died by suicide in Sircilla on Monday.
A resident of Indiramma Colony, Raju consumed a bathroom cleaning acid in his home on Monday. Family members shifted him to the Sircilla government hospital, where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment on Tuesday. He was survived by his wife Padma, son Rakesh and two daughters.
According to the neighbours, Raju, who used to run the family by working on powerlooms, had performed the marriages of both daughters and son, but in the process, incurred debts of about Rs.6 lakh.
However, Raju was left without work during the last few months. Unable to run the family and clear his debts, he got addicted to liquor consumption and was depressed.
Farmer tries to end life
Meanwhile, in Wanaparthy, a farmer attempted suicide fearing that his fields would dry up due to lack of sufficient water supply at Ayyavaripally village under Pebbair mandal on Tuesday.
Srikanth was cultivating sweet lemons and another farmer dug up borewell in the adjacent fields. Fearing that his fields would not get sufficient water supply, Srikanth, while capturing a selfie video, consumed pesticide and attempted suicide.
Locals rushed him to a private hospital in Kurnool for treatment. Srikanth’s condition is stated to be stable, according to reports.
