Telangana Assembly adjourned amidst din over 22A issue

The Telangana Assembly was adjourned for 15 minutes on Monday after BJP MLAs demanded a judicial probe by a sitting judge into lands and properties included in the prohibited category under Section 22-A, despite the government offering a short discussion.

Hyderabad: Minutes after the Assembly session commenced on Monday, Speaker G Prasad Kumar adjourned the House was adjourned for 15 minutes as BJP MLAs demanded a judicial probe into the inclusion of many lands and properties in prohibited category of 22 A.

As the Question Hour commenced, the Speaker asked Jadcherla MLA J Anirudh Reddy to pose his question. However, the BJP MLAs holding placards, insisted on a judicial enquiry into 22 A controversy by a sitting judge. They approached towards the well.

Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu said the government was prepared for a short discussion on 22 A row. He appealed to the BJP MLAs to occupy their seats and cooperate with the Chair. Unrelenting, the BJP MLAs squatted on the floor near the Speaker’s podium.

Sridhar Babu again intervened to advise the BJP MLAs to serve an adjournment motion on the first day of the House. He assured that all issues would be discussed in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting and decision would be taken accordingly.

Despite his assurance, the BJP MLAs continued the sloganeering. In the middle of this, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy left the House.

The Speaker directed the marshals to take away the placards from the BJP MLAs. As they continued sloganeering, the Speaker announced that the House was adjourned for 15 minutes without even the first question being raised by the Members during question hour.

BRS MLAs did not turn up into the House. Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha who was dropped from the cabinet was absent.
