Hyderabad: In a move to promote student well-being besides reducing academic stress among students, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) is set to hold surprise inspections across all private and corporate junior colleges after Dasara holiday break.
The TG BIE has announced Dasara vacation for all junior colleges from September 28 to October 3. The move comes after the BIE recently directed all junior colleges to hold at least one session of physical training (PT), meditation, and lab work every week. During inspections, the officials will check whether or not colleges are complying with the new guidelines, which aim to create a balanced academic environment, reduce mental stress and improve physical health of students.
During the recent meeting, according to officials, the private junior and corporate colleges have agreed to implement the directive. Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, TG BIE Secretary S Krishna Aditya emphasised that sports, meditation and practical learning were essential components for students’ overall development.
“The new directive is aimed at reducing academic stress, thereby reducing suicides. The Board will be taking up inspections to ensure that colleges comply with the directive,” he said.
Given the large number of private and corporate junior colleges, the Board, which already appointed special officers for all districts, has decided to use all its employees from the superintendent cadre for inspections.
Further, the Intermediate Education department has decided to install interactive flat panels in eight government junior colleges on a pilot basis for live sessions in the subjects where there is a dearth of faculty members. Accordingly, the department has tied up with EkStep Foundation, which will be extending services of its volunteers, who will be teaching students.
In another decision, the history, economics and civics stream for children with special needs will be launched in three government junior colleges – Vidyanagar, Saroornagar and Quthbullapur – from the academic year 2025-26.
