Telangana budget strikes a fine balance between development, welfare

Hyderabad: The State budget for 2022-23 struck a balance in allocation of funds for the development and welfare programmes being implemented by the Telangana government. However, there was a slightly higher allocation of funds towards benefiting the rural economy where the departments of Panchayat Raj, Agriculture and Irrigation were given priority. A significant funding was also made for infrastructure development especially in the medical and health sector as well as the education sector.
The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department bagged the highest allocation of Rs 29,586 crore for implementation of various welfare and development programmes including Palle Pragathi.
Agriculture which has been a priority sector for Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, will have an outlay of Rs 24,254 crore for the next fiscal. An estimated Rs 22,691 crore were allocated for the Irrigation department as the government intends to complete the pending projects, as well as focus on operation and maintenance of the existing projects.
With focus on improving the rural roads, an outlay of Rs 23,191 crore was given to the Transport, Roads and Buildings departments. A whopping Rs 20,624 crore were earmarked to Scheduled Castes Development department for effective implementation of the much-awaited Dalit Bandhu scheme with a budget outlay of Rs 17,700 crore. The Municipal Administration department too was allocated with Rs 10,903 crore.
As part of the State government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in the health and education sectors, a total Rs 11,237 crore were allocated for the Health and Medical department. Similarly, around Rs 13,727 crore were sanctioned for the Secondary Education and another Rs 2,357 crore for Higher Education departments.
