Kothagudem: Gone are the days when people feared to go to government hospitals for treatment especially, for childbirth and preferred private hospitals spending huge amounts on medical expenses. These days, government hospitals have become a favoured place for people to get treatment as the Telangana government has improved medical infrastructure at the public health facilities across the State on par with corporate hospitals.

Proving the point, many young IAS and IPS officers in erstwhile Khammam district in recent times have chosen government hospitals instead of private hospitals for medical assistance. Madhavi, the wife of Kothagudem District Collector Anudeep Durishetty, was admitted to Government Area Hospital at Bhadrachalam for her first childbirth on Tuesday. She gave birth to a baby boy during the wee hours of Wednesday. As emergency surgery was required for child delivery, gynaecologists Dr Surapaneni Srikranti and Dr Bhargavi and anesthesiologist Dr Devika performed a Caesarean section operation on her. The newborn child was examined by pediatrician Dr Y Rajasekhar Reddy.

Meanwhile, the decision of the Collector couple to opt for a government hospital was hailed by many. Health Minister T Harish Rao in his twitter handle congratulated Anudeep and his wife Madhavi. “It gives immense pride to see how under the able leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao garu, State medical infrastructure has proven to be the first choice of people”, the Minister tweeted.

Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar also extended his greetings to the Collector and his wife on his Twitter handle. The couple has proven, beyond doubt, how the government hospitals in Telangana have been transformed offering the best medical care to people, he said. It might be noted that Khammam Collector VP Gautham’s wife Gauthami also gave birth to a child at the Area Hospital on October 28 in 2019 when Gautham was serving as the ITDA Project Officer at Bhadrachalam.

Similarly, Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt’s wife Nishita Sharma too admitted to Kothagudem District Hospital for childbirth on July 27 last year while Khammam Additional Collector Snehalatha Mogili gave birth to her first child at Khammam District Hospital on Oct 22 this year. It is worth mentioning that Bhadrachalam Area Hospital has won the Central government’s Kayakalp Award four times and won a cash award of Rs 15 lakh for 2020-21. It bagged the award in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019.

It stood first among the Area Hospitals in the State in terms of conducting the highest number of institutional deliveries and family planning operations in 2014-2015 and secured the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) accreditation from the Union Health Ministry.
