Telangana CEO explains SIR process, says Form 6 can restore missing voter names

Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy clarified that only voters who submit enumeration forms under SIR-2026 will feature in the draft electoral rolls. Those left out can submit Form 6 from August 1. He also addressed implementation issues and Rohingya verification.

Hyderabad: Only the details of a voter who fills the enumeration form as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) would be included in the draft electoral rolls, said Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, C Sudarshan Reddy.

Participating in a Meet the Press programme organised by the Press Club, Hyderabad, on Friday, he said the names of those who fail to fill and submit the enumeration form would not find a place in the draft rolls, and they could fill in Form 6 and submit it.

“Those whose names do not figure in the draft rolls need not worry that their voting right has been lost. They can submit Form 6. From August 1, they can avail themselves of the facility of filling in Form 6,” he said.

As part of the SIR-2026, every voter whose name figured in the electoral rolls as on June 10 has been considered, and enumeration forms have been printed for them. “Every voter has been given two forms, which they have to fill. One form will be taken by the BLO and the other will be returned as an acknowledgement,” Sudarshan Reddy said.

The BLOs assigned the SIR exercise in urban areas such as Hyderabad and Medchal were facing issues due to addresses getting mixed up, he conceded. Since the BLOs in urban areas were from other places, they were facing difficulties in locating addresses and voters, and the assistance of municipal employees was being sought.

Responding to a query on extending the SIR exercise due to delays in the distribution of enumeration forms, the CEO said it would depend on the factual reports on the status submitted by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and the BLOs.

The Chief Electoral Officer said the issue of enumeration forms not being printed in Hindi and Urdu had been brought to the notice of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Responding to a query regarding Rohingyas in Hyderabad, the CEO said, “They were identified in 32 centres in Hyderabad, and instructions will be issued to the EROs to exercise caution while scrutinising these enumeration forms. Notices would be served wherever needed.”
