Telangana CEO seeks three-week extension of SIR, final voter list may be delayed

Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy has sought a three-week extension of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The request could push final voter list publication to late November or early December, from the scheduled October 19 date

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy has sought extension of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by three weeks.

As the claims and objections phase will conclude on September 16, the Telangana CEO on Saturday wrote a letter to Election Commission of India seeking permission for extension of the schedule. If the deadline is extended, the final voter list is likely to be published either in the last week of November or in the first week of December.

Earlier, in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had said a one-month window for claims and objections would not suffice and sought extension by four weeks. In addition, he sought three to four weeks to each elector who was served notice to reply and produce papers.

As per the current schedule, claims and objections on draft electoral roll can be filed up to September 16, while the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue up to October 15. The final electoral roll publication is scheduled for October 19.

Meanwhile, SIR notices were issued to 47.79 lakh voters till the last count on Saturday. According to officials, 32.39 lakh of the electors who were served notices could not appear for the hearings. So far, hearings were completed for 5,74,504 voters across the State.
