Warangal: Much to the joy of farmers, dry chilli is sold for the highest ever price in the season at the Enumamula Agriculture Market yard, which is one of Asia’s biggest agriculture markets, here. The Single Patti variety chilli has recorded a maximum price of Rs 40,000 per quintal on Tuesday, which is said to be the highest ever registered at this market since its inception.

Meanwhile, the deshi variety has also recorded the highest maximum price of Rs 35,000 per quintal on Tuesday, according to the officials.

One B Rajeshwar Rao of Ghanpur (Mulugu) of the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district brought 40 bags of chillies to the market on Monday, and he got Rs 35,000 per quintal of chilli (deshi variety). The demand for the chili is soaring as the chilli crop was damaged due to unseasonal rains and attack of pests and viruses. Though the normal yield is around 20 quintals per acre, it is said that only three to four quintals of yield is being recorded in this season. The Deshi variety chilli is grown in many parts of the erstwhile Warangal district.
