Karimnagar: Two Class IX students of a private school attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in Jammikunta late on Monday night.

Alerted by the hostel inmates, the school management shifted them to a private hospital in the town, where they are undergoing treatment. The students, identified as Ramcharan and Charan Kumar, both natives of Veenavanka, are studying at Master SV School, Jammikunta, and staying in the hostel.

According to reports, the duo would secretly leave the hostel to smoke cigarettes. On learning about it, the school authorities reprimanded them and instructed them to call their parents on Monday.

Distressed over the warning, the two consumed pesticide later that night. They reportedly told others that they took the step after being thrashed by the principal.
