Hyderabad: Telangana Association of United Kingdom (TAUK) on Sunday celebrated Chenetha Bathukamma and Dasara in London. Non-Resident Indians and Indian community organisation representatives from across the UK attended the event.
British MPs Virendra Sharma and Seem Malhotra along with Hounslow Mayor Bishnu Gurung were special guests.
TAUK Vice President Shusmuna Reddy said: “As responsible citizens and with the great inspiration from Telangana government, especially IT Minister KTR, we named this event as ‘Chenetha Bathukamma and Dasara’ to encourage people to wear handlooms on every occasion.”
Shami pooja was performed as per tradition and also Dasara’s “Alai-Balai”, where all participants exchanged shami leaves and pledged to support weavers in the home State.
TAUK Founder Anil Kurmachalam said, “Apart from supporting weavers in Telangana, we also thank National Health Services (NHS) in the UK, key workers, and Covid-19 warriors across the world who sacrificed their lives. Without their commitment, dedication, and humanity, we wouldn’t have seen normalcy in the community. We are thanking them with a fitting tribute by etching London Tower bridge artwork saying “Thank you NHS & key workers.”
The organisers felicitated guests with specially imported Handloom shawls from Telangana.
