Hyderabad: The State unit of Congress will be staging protests on November 27 and 28 at Indira Park here as part of its demand to expedite paddy procurement in the State.

The party has been conducting different programmes, including rallies and protests since last few days. On Thursday, the party leaders submitted representations to District Collectors and other Agriculture Department officials in different districts to expedite paddy procurement.

Meanwhile, in a virtual meeting with party leaders, Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said both TRS and BJP were deceiving farmers to derive political mileage. The State Government was promoting palm oil cultivation over paddy cultivation but palm oil cultivation was a long term crop and requires lot of effort, he said adding the Congress would fight for farmers’ rights.

CLP Leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao initiate measures for expediting paddy procurement in the State in the current season. The issue pertaining to paddy procurement by Central Government in Yasangi season can be followed up later and the need of the hour was Vanakalam procurement, he said.

Congress MLA D Sridhar Babu said there was shortage of gunny bags and tenders to transport the procured stocks were yet to be finalised. There was no sufficient godown space to store the stocks and the Chief Minister had failed to take up these issues with the Centre, he said.

Earlier in the day, TRS NRI United States cell Convenor Abhilash Rao, who hails from Kolhapur constituency, joined the Congress party in the presence of TPCC president A Revanth Reddy at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday.

The TPCC president said the Congress would hoist its victory flag in all the 14 assembly and two parliamentary constituencies in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district in the next elections.
