Telangana Congress repeats error, shares incorrect map of India

The latest controversy arose from a 2.07-minute promotional video shared on the party’s official X handle (formerly Twitter), which featured an incorrect depiction of India’s map. The video aimed to highlight the Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government's caste-based survey and present the State as a model for others to follow.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress has once again courted controversy by sharing an incorrect map of India—barely a week after a similar error during the Bharat Summit.

The latest incident occurred on the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, where a 2.07-minute promotional video on the caste census showcased an inaccurate depiction of the country’s map. The video was intended to highlight the Revanth Reddy-led State government’s efforts in conducting a caste-based survey and portray Telangana as a model for other States.

This is not the first time the party has come under fire for such a lapse. Earlier, Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy had shared a video on his personal X account featuring a similar incorrect map—omitting Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) and Ladakh—during the Bharat Summit. That video sparked widespread outrage, prompting the organisers to remove related posters and the MLA to delete the video from his timeline.

Despite the backlash and legal implications of such actions, the Telangana Congress appears to have repeated the same mistake—this time via its official communication channel. According to the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1990, “Whoever publishes a map of India that is not in conformity with maps published by the Survey of India shall be punishable with imprisonment for up to six months, or with a fine, or with both.”
