Hyderabad: State Health department is heading towards a major crisis with Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs), working on contract and outsourcing basis in all medical departments, on Friday serving notices to launch indefinite medical strike from December 19, if the State government does not regularize their jobs without any written examination.

Unions representing ANMs from all medical departments, in a meeting on Friday, said that contract ANMs who have been working for the past 20 years are unhappy over the government’s failure to fulfill the promises made during previous protests. As a result, all the unions have united and have decided to launch a major indefinite strike from December 19.

“During previous protests, the health department formed a three-member committee to address our issues. The committee must sit with and hold discussions with the contract ANMs and prepare a report. However, without any due process and consultation, the State Government decided to hold ANMs entrance examination on December 29,” the unions said demanding cancellation of examination and their problems addressed first.

If their demands are not met, 6000 contract ANMs will go on an indefinite strike, said the unions who are protesting over the government’s delay in regularizing their services and demanding better working conditions.
