Hyderabad: A special sessions court for trial of MPs/MLAs here on Tuesday adjourned to April 13 the judgment in the hate speech cases booked against AIMIM Assembly floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.

It earlier posted the matter for judgment today after completion of arguments by defense and prosecution but deferred the verdict to Wednesday. Owaisi, who was arrested in connection with cases registered against him for his alleged hate speeches delivered at Nizamabad and Nirmal in December 2012 and subsequently released on bail, appeared before the court on Tuesday.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) probed the Nizamabad case and filed the charge-sheet in 2016 while the Nirmal district police that probed the case, also submitted the charge-sheet the same year.

As many as 41 witnesses were examined in the Nizamabad case while 33 people were examined in the Nirmal case.

Meanwhile, tight security was maintained at the Nampally criminal court complex where Owaisi appeared before the court and also in sensitive areas in the old city and in Nirmal in view of the verdict.
