Hyderabad: The Covid vaccination drive in Telangana State has continued to be taken up at a brisk pace with concerted efforts to expedite second-dose yielding positive results with vaccinators managing to cover 82 per cent of the eligible beneficiaries towards the end of January.

When the Omicron variant in South Africa was reported on November 24, 2021, only 47 per cent of the eligible population in Telangana had received the second dose of Covid vaccine while the first dose coverage was close to 90 per cent.


Since then, in the last two months, the second-dose coverage of the Covid vaccine has shot up from 47 per cent to 82 per cent. In fact, several districts including Karimnagar, Khammam, Medak, Yadadri Bhongir, and Rangareddy district have managed to administer second-dose of Covid vaccine to more than 90 per cent of the eligible beneficiaries.

By December 2, 2021, the field-level workers from various government departments had administered second-dose to 1,30,73,077 persons out of 2,77,67,000 eligible individuals, which is 47 per cent coverage. By January 26, the authorities had administered second-dose to 2,28,07,104, which is 82 per cent of the eligible beneficiaries.

In the 15 to 17 years group, which was launched on January 3, Telangana has already covered 62 per cent of the beneficiaries in 23 days for the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Vaccination trend

Total eligible persons above 18 tears: 2,77,67,000

December 2, 2021: First dose: 2,51,47,019 (90%); Second dose: 1,30,73,077 (47%)
January 1, 2022: First dose: 2,79,71,866 (101%); Second dose: 1,91,21,445 (69%)
January 26, 2022: First dose: 2,88,729,53 (104%); Second dose: 2,2,807,104 (82%)

Teen vaccination: Total eligible: 18,41,000

January 5: First dose: 1,87,538 (10%)
January 26: First dose: 11,44,994 (62%)
