Seven arrested for misappropriating Rs 8.71 lakh from CM Relief Fund
Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills Police arrested seven persons for fraudulently misappropriating Rs 8.71 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
The suspects identified as Potla Ravi, Janagama Nagaraju, Mateti Bhasker, Dharmaram Raju, Kampalli Santhosh, Chityala Laxmi, and Asampelli Laxmi posed as beneficiaries, deposited sanctioned cheques into their accounts, and withdrew the funds.
Based on a complaint, the Jubilee Hills police booked a case and took up investigation.
Earlier in July, four others, including J Naresh Kumar, were arrested for similar offences after illegally diverting CMRF cheques left undistributed post the 2023 elections.
Police said efforts are on to recover the funds and trace other absconding suspects.
________________________________________ FedEx scam: Hyderabad Cybercrime cops arrest Haryana man
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have arrested one Nikhil Tiwari (25) of Gurugram in Haryana in connection with a FedEx scam on Friday. He was identified as the account holder and operator used in the fraud.
The case relates to a 45-year-old doctor from Hyderabad who was in October 2024 duped of Rs 1.23 crore after receiving calls from fraudsters posing as postal staff and police officials.
Police said the victim was falsely told that a parcel in his name contained narcotics, police uniforms, and ID cards.
“Through threats of arrest and fake video calls with impersonation of senior police officers, the accused coerced him into transferring the money via RTGS for financial verification,” Cybercrime police officials said.
Police said the fraudsters used multiple accounts to siphon funds, with Nikhil Tiwari’s account playing a key role.
Cybercrime officials warned citizens against such intimidation scams and urged people not to share personal or financial details over suspicious calls. ________________________________________ Hyderabad: Punjab businessman held in online trading fraud
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrested one Sanjeev Kumar (49), a businessman from Ludhiana in Punjab, in connection with a major online trading fraud on Friday.
He was identified as the account holder and operator used to channel victims’ funds.
The case pertains to a 69-year-old priest from the city who was duped in April 2025 after being lured into a WhatsApp group promoting stock trading through a fake app, IMPV PRO.
“Misled by inflated profits shown on the platform, the victim continued investing until he realized he could not withdraw his money. He eventually suffered losses of Rs 1.23 crore,” officials said.
Cybercrime officials said the scammers typically build trust with victims by showing fake profits, crediting small returns, and then pressuring them into making large investments. Later, they demand additional payments under the guise of taxes or withdrawal charges.
Investigations are underway to trace other members of the racket and recover the defrauded funds.

Hyderabad: The Task Force (West) team busted a major online betting racket and arrested one bookie, five agents, and one punter involved in operating illegal platforms on Friday.
The prime suspect Girish Agarwal (39) of Charminar acted as the bookie, while others worked as agents and facilitated punters.
Following a tip-off, police first caught punter Suresh Soni at Puranapul, Bahadurpura and based on his confession nabbed the bookie and his associates.
Investigations revealed that the bookie managed over Rs 23.5 lakh betting points, equivalent to Rs 23.5 lakh across multiple platforms.
They recruited agents, opened new bank accounts in their names, and used them for transactions.
________________________________________ Two traders booked for smuggling fake cigarettes in Mancherial
Mancherial: Officials of the International Corporate Vigilance Department and local police conducted raids on two grocery stores and seized counterfeit cigarettes of a popular band here on Thursday night. The value of the cigarettes was assessed to be Rs 9,000.
The officials and police raided Krishna General Stores and Pavana Kirana following a tip-off. They reportedly seized large quantities of cigarettes. A case was registered against the shop owners and investigations were taken up.
During interrogations, the owners confessed to committing the offence. They admitted to procuring the cigarettes from Kagaznagar.
________________________________________ One injured as truck overturns on ORR
Hyderabad: One person was injured after a cement-laden truck went out of control and overturned on the ORR in Pedda Amberpet in Abdullapurmet on the city outskirts on Friday.
Police suspect the driver was in an inebriated condition. As per available information, the incident occurred when the truck was proceeding from Patancheru towards Hyderabad. When the overloaded truck reached Pedda Amberpet, the driver who was reportedly drunk lost control of the steering wheel, resulting in the vehicle turning over.
The driver was injured in the incident. The Abdullapurmet police are investigating.
