Telangana: Crime rate in Nizamabad increases marginally this year

Nizamabad: The Nizamabad police commissionerate witnessed a marginal increase in crime rate during the current year.

Presenting the annual crime report here on Sunday, incharge commissioner of police Sindhu Sharma informed that a total of 1,185 cases were reported this year in the commissionerate, as against 980 in 2023 and 918 in 2022.


A total of 8,745 FIRs were registered during the year under various police stations in the commissionerate limits, she said.

There was a marginal increase in cases of culpable homicide, kidnapping, rape and incidents of hurt during the year, she said, adding that 42 cases of murder, 77 cases of rape and 57 cases of kidnapping were reported in the commissionerate during the year.

The year saw an increase in the cases of suicide, with 442 cases registered in various police stations under the commissionerate, whereas it was 356 cases last year.

Though 431 cases of vehicle thefts were reported, only 138 could be detected, she said, adding that of the 37 cases of chain snatching reported only 7 were detected.

Commenting on cases of crime against women, the police commissioner informed that 326 cases of dowry harassment, 214 cases of molestation and 115 cases of POCSO Act were reported in the commissionerate during the year.

A whopping 722 cases of cheating and 376 cases of cyber crime were reported during the year, she said, adding that 335 people lost their lives and 758 people suffered injuries in road accidents in the commissionerate during the year.
