Hyderabad: The State government has declared holiday for all women employees in the government departments on Monday (March 8), marking the occasion of the International Women’s Day. Following instructions from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar issued orders to this effect, allowing women employees to avail special causal leave on Monday.

Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao who conveyed his greetings to women in Telangana State on the occasion of International Women’s Day, said women play a key role in development. He said women were not only competing with men, but were also excelling in all the fields. “Women, who constitute 50 percent of the population, would do wonders if they were given a chance,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the State government was taking a slew of measures to take women on the path of development and progress including setting up of the SHE teams, Aasara pensions for the old age women, single woman and widows, schemes like Shadi Mubarak and Kalyana Laxmi, KCR Kits, increase in salaries of ASHA workers, and Anganwadi teachers among others to empower women. He said Telangana State is in the forefront as far as women’s welfare is concerned.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan extended heartiest greetings to all the women in the State. She felt that it was high time that the society truly imbibe and implement the spirit of gender equality as well as promote women in decision-making roles in all spheres of life for a more equitable and inclusive world. “International Women’s Day is an occasion to celebrate and emulate the success of women in different walks of life. From family care to the nation-building, women is always omnipotent,” she said.

The Governor said the country’s heritage, culture, and traditions for centuries have been respecting and honouring women and worshipped them as the personification of Goddess Shakti. “I salute the spirit of sacrifice and bravery shown by women as caregivers and frontline warriors during the Covid-19 pandemic. Let us all resolve and work for the all-round development of women and the gender equality in true spirit,” she said.
