Hyderabad: The degree semester examinations scheduled from Tuesday will be conducted as per the timetable.

Earlier, the Telangana Private Degree and PG Colleges Management Association announced boycott of all UG semester exams besides calling indefinite institutions bandh over inordinate delay by the Congress government in releasing the fee reimbursement arrears.

Telangana Council of Higher Education Chairman Prof. V Balakista Reddy held talks with association office bearers over the issue.

According to a statement issued by Council secretary Dr. Sriram Venkatesh, the talks were fruitful.

“All UG exams will be conducted as per the schedule from today. Talks between the Chairman TGCHE and Managements are fruitful,” he said on Tuesday.

The issue stems from non-release of fee dues for the last two academic years, putting managements under severe financial strain. Due to fee dues, 90 per cent colleges were not able to pay faculty salaries or rent for their premises over the past four to five months, the managements said, adding that due mounting interest on loans and unable to secure new credit, running colleges had become a herculean task for the managements. Despite these issues, around seven lakh degree and PG students managed to pursue their academics without facing any challenges, the association said.

Earlier, the managements closed the institutions from October 14 due to their inability to meet operational costs as pending fee dues were not released.

However, on the fourth day of the college’s closure, Principal Secretary to Government (Education) Burra Venkatesham on behalf of the Chief Minister had assured to clear the fee dues within a week. However, even after one month into assurance, the dues were not released, the association added.
