Telangana DGP reviews police welfare schemes, stresses support for personnel families

HYDERABAD: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand on Monday reviewed the functioning of the Police Welfare Society and Arogya Bhadratha (Health Protection) Scheme and said welfare of police personnel and their families remains one of the top priorities of the department.
During the review meeting, the DGP said that various welfare initiatives, including medical, education and marriage assistance, loans, scholarships and insurance benefits, were being implemented to provide financial security to police families.
He said merit scholarships and financial assistance were being provided to children of police personnel pursuing higher education and preparing for competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET.
Reviewing the Arogya Bhadratha scheme, the DGP said 33,126 police personnel and their family members availed treatment in 2025, while 12,392 beneficiaries received treatment up to June 2026. The expenditure under the scheme was Rs 181.74 crore in 2025 and Rs 73.61 crore up to June 2026.
He also reviewed the Group Personal Accidental Insurance Policy, under which families of police personnel who die in accidents while in service receive financial assistance. The coverage ranges from Rs 5 lakh for Constables to Assistant Sub-Inspectors to Rs 25 lakh for IPS officers and above.
The DGP directed officials to digitise welfare services by creating an integrated platform containing beneficiary details, fund utilisation and service delivery records to ensure transparency and accountability.
