Karimnagar: The Telangana Education Protection Committee (TEPC) has demanded the State government to allocate 20 per cent funds for education in the next budget.
Representatives of the organisation staged a protest demonstration at the Collectorate here on Sunday. The Congress party, which came to power by promising top priority to the education sector, forgot its promise.
Only 7.3 percent of funds were allocated in the 2024-25 budget. On average, it was 14.7 per cent less when compared to the budget allocated to the sector in other States, they said.
As a result, the education performance index of the State had fallen to the 35th place due to meager allocations in the budget.
Education standards in colleges and universities have also fallen due to lack of basic facilities, funds, adequate teaching and non-teaching staff, they said, adding that the Congress government’s allocation of 7.3 per cent last time was against allocations by Uttar Pradesh (13 per cent), Rajasthan (18 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (16 per cent) and Bihar (18.4 per cent).
