Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Kaghaznagar municipality has returned a hung verdict, with Independents and the BJP emerging as the swing factors. Both the BRS and the Congress are likely to compete to secure power, possibly by garnering the support of Independents.
No single party secured a majority in the 30-ward Kaghaznagar municipality, where 16 seats are required to form the governing body. The BRS won 11 wards, while the Congress followed with nine. With five seats, the BJP emerged as a significant third force, and four Independents also registered victories. Both the Independents and the BJP are set to play a decisive role in the formation of the municipal council.
However, the outcome has given the BJP an opportunity to play kingmaker despite the party not emerging as the single largest force. It remains to be seen which party the BJP will choose to support in order to enable the formation of the council. Incidentally, the Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency is represented by Dr P Harish Babu of the BJP.
