Hyderabad: The State government’s initiatives of opening new residential schools besides improving facilities and providing quality free education in government schools are yielding good results, with an increase in enrolments in government schools indicating the same.

The enrolments in the government schools (primary to higher secondary) for the academic year 2019-20 have increased to 28,32,859 from 28,22,435 in the 2018-19 academic year. These statistics were released by the Union government in a reply to a question asked by MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy in Lok Sabha on Monday.


Similarly, the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in the State has also gone up. The State has recorded a GER of 108.38 per cent in primary, 93.09 per cent in upper primary, 84.79 per cent in secondary and 56.51 per cent in higher secondary schools during the academic year 2018-19, which increased to 111.92 per cent in primary, 97.4 per cent in upper primary, 88 per cent in secondary and 57.15 per cent in higher secondary schools in the academic year 2019-20.
