Sangareddy: Deputy Excise Commissioner (Nizamabad) Ustela Somi Reddy has won the first prize in a national level letter writing competition organised by the postal department.

The competition was organised on the theme of “The joy of writing: importance of letters in the digital age” (envelope category). Somi Reddy, an avid reader and writer, will receive Rs 25,000 as cash prize. He is a native of Bakkamanthula Gudem in Matampally mandal of Suryapet district.

He also used to communicate with his wife through letters when he was undergoing training as an excise sub-inspector after cracking Group-II.

Even though the mobile phone was introduced, Reddy said he always loved to write letters to his son Dhanush who used to stay in the hostel during his college days.

He has brought out two books on the letters he wrote to his wife and son. The letters written to his son were published as “Itlu Nanna” (By your father).

The letters written to his wife Ramadevi were published as “Ramaniyam”. He presented the book as a gift to his wife on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.
