Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said Telangana, which witnessed the agriculture sector flourishing under the BRS regime, was now witnessing parched fields and struggling farmers due to the Congress government abandoning irrigation projects initiated by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Rama Rao blamed the Congress’s silence, despite water meant for Telangana’s farmers being diverted to Andhra Pradesh, leaving crops to wither.
“Under BRS, lakes and other water bodies had water even in the driest months, and canals supplied enough water for two crops a year. Today, Congress has left farmers in despair,” he said.
The situation has deteriorated drastically in the last 15 months, the BRS working president stated, pointing out that farmers now lacked access to irrigation water, free electricity, quality seeds, and fertilisers. Even if farmers managed to grow crops, he said the government was failing to procure their produce, pushing them into financial ruin.
“Agriculture which was once a celebration under Chandrashekhar Rao’s pro-farmer policies has now turned into a crisis under Congress,” he remarked, blaming the State government for bringing drought and distress to Telangana.
Rama Rao warned that agriculture was in crisis across the State – from Alampur to Adilabad and Ashwaraopet to Zaheerabad. He slammed the Congress rule for betraying Telangana farmers with empty promises.
