Adilabad: Three farmers staged a sit-in inside of a branch of the State Bank of India protesting against alleged negligence of officials belonging to the bank in payment of funds relating to cotton crop, at Punjab Chowk here on Tuesday.

The farmers, Nalla Vilash, Jagadish and Mohan all from different parts of the district staged the protest alleging that the officials were not responding to their request to give back their funds Rs 3.76 lakh for over a year. They said that the funds were deposited in an account of the postal department when they sold their cotton produce.

On receiving information about the protest, police rushed to the bank and intervened. Accordingly, officials of the bank held consultations with the farmers and took steps to address the problem. They said that the funds were frozen following a fraudulent transaction that occurred in the past.
