Rajanna-Sirclla: Farmers on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in Gambhiraopet mandal in protest against delay in the procurement of paddy.

Farmers, who staged rasta roko by placing paddy bags across the road, raised slogans against the collector and other officials for not taking initiatives to speed up the procurement process. They wanted the Collector and market committee chairman to come to the procurement centre immediately and solve their problem.

Speaking on the occasion, the villagers alleged that though the center was started one week ago, procurement of paddy was not being done.

It was ridiculous on the part of IKP officials to say that they were unable to speed up the procurement process as allotment was not done and lack of lorries for transportation. It showed the clear negligence of the State government on the troubles of farmers.

Five days ago, 1200 bags were weighed and kept in the center itself due to lack of vehicles for transportation. Who would take responsibility if paddy packed in gunny bags was soaked in unseasonal rains? they questioned.

They demanded that the state government speed up the procurement process.
