Hyderabad: In a swift move aimed at curbing child labour menace, the State government has decided to take stern action against those who employ or force children below 14 years to work. Labour Department issued revised guidelines in line with the rules stipulated by the Centre.
If anyone attempts to employ children below 14 years, he or she will face six months to one year jail term along with a fine ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000. A task force committee headed by District Collector concerned will be constituted for effective monitoring and curbing the menace.
Permission from the Collector concerned is necessary if any film director intends to rope in children in movies or serials. The children should be allowed to work only for five hours with a break after three hours.
The crew members should ensure safety of the child during the shooting and the child should be permitted to attend shooting up to 27 days only. A person has to be appointed for supervision if more than five children are taking part in the shooting.
Twenty-five per cent of the remuneration of the child should be fixed deposited in the bank and the same amount should be given to the child after he or she becomes major.
The parents will also face action if they force children to work. The department said the parents can take assistance from their children without affecting their education. Children should not be used in dangerous works, manufacturing sector and retail chain among others.
If any child fails to attend school without permission for 30 days, the school principal should bring it to the notice of the nodal officer concerned.
