Telangana: Five persons stranded in river Manjira airlifted

The rescued were identified as Nagaraju (28), a resident of Pythara village, Dugraprasad (25) of Janakampally, Sridhar (32) of Medak town, Komuraiah of Hyderabad and Mahesh of Kistapur (32).

Medak: Five persons, who were stranded in river Manjira, have been airlifted by Indian Air Force chopper near Edupayala Temple in Kulcharam Mandal of Medak district on Thursday afternoon. Since the crest gates of Singur project has been lifted following heavy inflows upstream, the bridge at Kistapur village has submerged in the river Manjira. As the water has not been receding, four persons, working at a seed company field and another cattle herder,  were stranded the other side of the Manjira, which was in spate.


According to Kulcharam Police, they have got information from villagers of the locals about the stranded people. Thesildar, Pradeep and Sub-inspector of Police, Srinivas Goud took the issue to the notice of Commissioner of Police, Siddipet D Joel Davis, who is holding the additional charge as Superintendent of Police, Medak. The IPS officer has sought the help of IAF, who have sent a chopper immediately. Since there was no place to land, the Police have made the chopper land on the busy Medak-Narsapur road by halting the traffic from both sides for a while. The rescued were identified as Nagaraju (28), a resident of Pythara village, Dugraprasad (25) of Janakampally, Sridhar (32)of Medak town, Komuraiah of Hyderabad and Mahesh of Kistapur (32).

Speaking on the occasion, DSP Medak Krishna Murthy has said that they have successfully rescued them as everyone responded on time. He has thanked the IAF crew and all those who helped them in rescue. RDO, O Sairam, Inspector, Palavelli and others were present.
