Telangana forest dept invites volunteers for All-India Tiger Estimation 2026
The Telangana Forest Department has called on citizens, students, NGOs, and wildlife lovers to join the All-India Tiger Estimation 2026, a massive wildlife survey led by WII and NTCA. Registrations are open until November 22, with participants required to commit for seven days and trek up to 12 km daily.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Forest department has invited citizens, students, NGOs, and wildlife enthusiasts to join the All-India Tiger Estimation (AITE), an extensive wildlife programme spearheaded by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Dehradun and National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
The AITE 2026 will cover over 8.27 lakh sq. km across India‘s diverse landscapes, involving more than 65,000 forest beats nationwide.
Volunteers participating in the AITE 2026 – phase-I, will assist forest staff in conducting transect and trail walks across designated forest beats to record apart from direct sightings, signs and evidence of wildlife presence such as tracks, scats, pellets, and other indirect indicators.
They will also help in habitat quality assessment, vegetation sampling, documentation of human & cattle pressures and recording of direct sightings using the M-STrIPES mobile application, a press release said.
Participants must commit to the entire seven-day duration. They will be provided basic accommodation and simple locally sourced food. Individuals need to carry their trekking shoes for the period.
Participants should be aged between 18 and 60 years and should have the ability to walk 10–12 km per day across rugged forest terrain.
