Telangana: Fourteen police personnel, including 4 SIs, end lives in 2024

While four of them committed suicide in October month, five of them died in December this year.

Sangareddy: Work burden, harassment from higher officials, family issues and love affairs are said to be taking a toll on police personnel in Telangana with at least 14 police personnel dying by suicide in 2024 across the State. This included four Sub-inspector rank officials and a woman constable.

Armed Reserve SI Baleshwar, who was working with the 10th battalion in Mahabubnagar, shot himself to death while discharging duties under Hussaini Alam police station in Hyderabad in April. He was reportedly under work stress. The suicide of Ashwaraopet SI Sriramulu Srinivas, who died by suicide after accusing CI and other police personnel of harassing him, had created a sensation in the State. Srinivas, who consumed poison on June 30, died after battling for life in NIMS Hospital for a week.


Wazedu SI R Harish shot himself to death in a resort near Perur in Mulugu district. Harish was reportedly having an affair with a woman, who allegedly was pressurising him to marry her. The police later arrested the woman for abetting suicide.

Bhiknur SI Sai Kumar, a resident of Kulcharam in Medak, died by jumping into a lake near Adlur in Kamareddy along with woman constable Sruthi and another man Akhil on December 25.

On Sunday, two more constables died by suicide in the erstwhile Medak district. Head constable Sai Kumar hanged himself at Kulcharam police station on Sunday morning while he was on duty in Medak district, another battalion constable Bandari Balakrishna made his wife and two sons consume poison on Sunday. He hanged himself after consuming the same poison at his residence in Kalakunta in Siddipet town. Neighbours shifted his wife and two sons to Siddipet government hospital.

In another incident, AR head constable G Srinivas shot himself to death in Mahabubabad police headquarters on October 13, while another AR constable Balakrishna Goud shot himself to death at Rangareddy district collectorate on September 28.

Bhukya Sagar, who was suspended in a ganja case, committed suicide after shooting a selfie video. Sagar, who worked at Burgampahad in Kothagudem district, alleged the higher officials and local leaders of framing him in the case, committed suicide by consuming poison and died hours later while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.

Traffic Constable Ravi Shankar (42) committed suicide by hanging in Nalgonda due to financial issues on November 2 while another traffic constable Narasimha Raju was found dead on the railway tracks near Ghatkesar on September 28.

Bollam Devendar Reddy (30), a resident of Veenavanka, committed suicide by consuming poison just four months after he joined the service for unknown reasons on October 2. Home Guard K Ramana, who was working at the Punjagutta office, was found hanging from the ceiling at his residence in Chilukanagar on October 17. While four of them committed suicide in October month, five of them died in December this year.
