Hyderabad: With the water bodies getting huge inflows due to incessant rains for the last few days, the gates of at least four irrigation projects on Godavari basin were opened by the Irrigation Department officials to release water downstream.
For the last five days, the officials were opening gates of Sriram Sagar project and releasing 3.50 lakh cusecs of water. On Tuesday, 33 out of 42 gates of the project were lifted to release water downstream. The project is currently receiving 3.50 lakh cusecs of inflows, said officials.
They said that more gates might be opened after one gate of Nizam Sagar project was opened on Tuesday. “We opened one gate of Nizam Sagar project and releasing 5,300 cusecs of water which will first reach Manjeera River and later Sriram Sagar project,” said Kamareddy Executive Engineer (Irrigation) Solomon.
The Nizam Sagar project was receiving 2,400 cusecs of inflows from Singur Dam, Pocharam and Haldi Vagu. Eighteen gates each of Mid Manair reservoir and Lower Manair Dam were opened to release 1.06 lakh and 2.62 lakh cusecs of water downstream.
The Mid Manair and Lower Manair Dam were receiving 87,710 and 2.72 lakh cusecs of inflows.
Meanwhile, officials of Priyadarshini Jurala Project (PJP) on Krishna basin lifted 11 gates and releasing 1.05 lakh cusecs of water into Srisailam project. PJP was receiving 93,500 cusecs of inflows from upstream areas, officials said.
