Sangareddy: District Collector Valluru Kranthi has directed District Medical and Health Officer Dr Gayathri Devi to dismiss gynaecologist Dr Uzma Naaz, working at the Zaheerabad Area Hospital, on charges of referring pregnant women to private hospitals.
Following multiple complaints against Dr Naaz, the Collector ordered an inquiry, with the committee finding that the allegations were true. Kranthi then ordered the DMHO to dismiss Dr Naaz from service immediately. She also asked the DMHO to serve notices on two doctors working at the Doulthabad and Malchelma primary health centres for acting negligently while discharging duties.
During a meeting with Health Department officials in Sangareddy on Wednesday, the Collector said maternal and infant mortality rates had come down by 50 per cent in the district this year compared to the previous year.
Kranthi asked the doctors at area hospitals to deal with low-risk pregnancy cases at the area hospital level and to refer high-risk cases to district hospitals after consulting doctors at the district hospital.
Kranthi also suggested the ASHA workers and ANMs to constantly monitor pregnant women in their respective purview by offering constant guidance. Government General Hospital Superintendent Dr Anil Kumar and others were present.
