Karimnagar: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao said the State government has released its share of Rs 100 crore for the Karimnagar Smart City programme. The amount was released on Sunday.
Stating that there was no shortage of funds, the mayor promised to complete all works taken up under the smart city programme in a phased manner. As part of the programme, smart roads have been taken up under package-I,II,III.
As part of the inspection of smart city works, the mayor on Monday toured the housing board colony of 7th division and examined ongoing smart roads and park works.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Rao promised to develop the housing board colony as a modern colony as part of Karimnagar smart city programme. Colony roads would be taken up with Rs 64 crore by converting them into smart roads under package-III of smart city.
Stating that 50 percent road works were already completed, he assured to complete remaining works very soon. The widths of roads have been reduced due to increase of the length of footpaths and curb walls. After coming to know about the issue, he was inspecting the road works.
RV consultancy engineers were asked to ensure adequate width of the roads to cater the needs of the increasing population of the town as well as vehicles. He instructed the officials to rectify road works done so far. Smart city officials and contractor should work with a motto to provide better facilities to the people of the town, he said and advised the officials to take up work by making changes in the previous plan in the housing board colony.
Steps have also been taken to include the road leading to Kapuwada Varahaswamy temple from housing board colony in package-3, he informed and road works would be started very soon.
Inspecting park works, Sunil Rao instructed officials to complete the park by January ending. Informing that so far, five parks were developed for the convenience of the people, he said that development of another six parks were under progress. They would also be completed very soon.
A new library building was constructed by spending Rs 6 crore, he said and informed to develop a digital library with Rs 1.5 crore.
